Brush Tales

Growing up as a kid, I was constantly drawing, painting and taking photographs. Much to my parents’ horror, my ongoing art projects constantly commandeered the dining room table. At school the art room was my second home. I loved my creative writing too, so it seemed only natural that I would go on and study art and History of Art at art college and Manchester University. Painting, drawing, illustration and photography being my true loves.

I have always loved immersing myself in the London galleries and travelling Europe exploring galleries and learning about the masters - the Impressionists, the Post-impressionists, the Surrealists and Modernists - studying their artworks, play of colour, light and brushworks, as well as their intriguing tales of life, love and anguish. My love for art led me to start off my career working in the art world - at the Whitworth Gallery in Manchester, for a Fine Art Publisher and later a Fine Art Photographic Agency in London. Later in my career, with my copywriting, publishing and communications work, I have always tried to mix the best of writing, art, design and photography.

My own paintings and drawings, like my photography, have always gravitated towards nature. Seascapes, landscapes and botanicals. I am always fascinated by the natural world and constantly inspired by the stunning, and ever-changing beauty around us. A lover of the ocean and its extraordinary energy and life, the serenity of our coastline, the whispering majesty of trees, the intricacy of flora, and the fascinating birds and creatures, great and small around us. It is their energy, magic and wonder that I believe are invaluable to us as humans and which I hope to share in my work.

Living in Bayside in Melbourne on the Bay, with its stretch of stunning coastline, I am constantly in awe of our local natural world - my muse - on our doorstep.
